Answers for parents

Children’s dentistry FAQs

When should my child first see a dentist?
From the first tooth or by age one. Early visits build confidence and help us guide brushing and diet from the start.
How often should kids have check-ups?
Usually every 6 months. If we’re monitoring growth, enamel or braces readiness, we may suggest shorter intervals.
Do children need X-rays?
Only when clinically useful—like checking between teeth or tracking development. We use low-dose digital imaging.
Are fluoride varnish and fissure sealants safe?
Yes. Fluoride strengthens enamel; sealants protect deep grooves on new adult molars. We’ll recommend them if helpful.
My child is nervous, what can we do?
We take a gentle, tell-show-do approach with short, friendly visits. You’re welcome to stay throughout the appointment.
What’s the best daily routine?
Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, supervise until ~age 7–8, and keep sugary snacks/drinks to mealtimes.
How do you decide when to start orthodontic treatment?
We track growth at each visit. If crowding, crossbite, or jaw development suggests a benefit, we’ll recommend the best time to begin.
What if a baby tooth is knocked out?
Don’t reinsert a baby tooth. Call us for advice. For adult teeth, keep the tooth moist (milk or saliva) and seek urgent care.
